HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

This institution was named in memory of the late Ma. Estrella Puras – Valencia Goco and founded on May 30, 1976 under the initiative and guidance of her eldest son, the late Rodolfo Valencia Goco Sr. Through the discipline and hardwork of the clan patriarch the late Lorenzo L. Goco Sr., four siblings became doctors, Romulo V. Goco, Rolando V. Goco, Lorenzo V. Goco Jr. and Augusto V. Goco. They have one way or the other contributed to the progress of the institution.

Maria Estrella General Hospital, Inc. is located within the City of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro. It caters not only to Calapan City but likewise to the 14 municipalities of Oriental Mindoro and the surrounding provinces of MIMAROPA region.

It is a family-owned corporation, level II hospital with an authorized capacity of 95 beds accredited by various private and government agencies.

It has a current pool of 113 physicians covering the 5 major divisions of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics.

Internal Medicine has subspecialties covering Cardiology, Pulmonology, Gastro-Intestinal, Nephrology, Oncology, Rheumatology Endocrinology and Neurology Unit. Surgery has General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Neurosurgery. ENT and Ophthalmology units are likewise available. Obstetrics and Gynecology has a Gyne-oncology section. Pediatrics has Neonatology, Cardiology, Nephrology and Neurology section.

MEGH, Inc. is governed by private individuals in its Executive Committee, the Medical Director and Hospital Administrator. The Administrative wing comprises the Accounting, Pharmacy, Personnel, Purchasing, Marketing and Maintenance divisions. Its management strives to improve all areas including infrastructure with additional expansion of services, acquisition of new equipment and training of its staff towards competency.

Through the years, the hospital has expanded its services to provide updated services on prevention and treatment for our constituent.
